Juror code of conduct
The integrity of the Outlook Awards depends on the highest standards of ethics, transparency, and trust.
Code of conduct
The Outlook Awards exist to recognise excellence across design, product, and leadership. Our jury plays a vital role in upholding this mission. The integrity of the Outlook Awards depends on the highest standards of ethics, transparency, and trust. We are committed to setting the benchmark for transparency in how awards are judged and administered, ensuring that every decision is fair, accountable, and worthy of the community’s confidence.
Our approach is built on two pillars: the principles and ethics that guide how decisions are made, and the unrivalled diversity of voices that make those decisions. Together, these create a process that is not only credible but meaningful, reflecting the full spectrum of talent, experience, and perspective across our industry. It is this combination that makes The Outlook Awards distinct and defines their purpose: to celebrate excellence with honesty and clarity.
- Integrity and impartiality
-
Jurors are expected to assess all entries objectively and on their own merit. Personal opinions, prior relationships, or external pressures must never influence decisions. Every entry deserves the same consideration, regardless of discipline, organisation size, or reputation.
- Conflict of interest
-
Jurors must declare any potential conflicts of interest before judging begins. This includes any financial, professional, or personal connection with an entrant, organisation, or project.
If a conflict exists, the juror will abstain from scoring or discussion related to that entry. The Awards team may reassign scoring responsibilities where appropriate.
- Sponsor and partner entries
-
Entries submitted by sponsors or partners will be subject to the same evaluation process as all others. Jurors affiliated with a sponsor or partner organisation must not score or comment on those entries. We ensure an independent balance of voices in all judging panels.
- Confidentiality
-
Jurors are entrusted with confidential materials and discussions. Entries, deliberations, and outcomes must not be shared outside the judging process. Any breach of confidentiality may result in removal from the jury.
- Transparency and accountability
-
We are committed to transparency in how decisions are made. Jury discussions remain confidential to ensure candour, but the process itself is clear, consistent, and documented. The judging criteria, scoring process, and jury composition are published publicly.
- Respect and professionalism
-
Jurors are expected to engage respectfully with one another, acknowledging the diversity of perspectives and disciplines represented. Healthy debate is encouraged, but courtesy and professionalism are non-negotiable.
- Favouritism and influence
-
Jurors must not advocate for or against any entry based on personal bias or affiliation. Lobbying or external influence of any kind, before, during, or after the judging process, is prohibited.
- Upholding our values
-
The Outlook Awards celebrate diversity, breadth, and difference. We ask jurors to approach their role with openness and curiosity, recognising that impact can take many forms, including creative, social, cultural, and commercial.
Ethics and public representation
Serving as a juror carries a great responsibility. Jurors act as representatives of the design and product community, and the way they engage publicly reflects on the Outlook Awards as a whole. We ask that jurors uphold the integrity of the process in how they communicate their role and experience.
Before public announcement, jurors must not disclose details about entries, results, or deliberations. After results are made public, jurors are welcome to share reflections on the judging experience, provided confidentiality and impartiality are maintained. Any public comments should reflect the collective values of fairness, curiosity, and respect.
Jurors must avoid statements that could be perceived as promoting or disadvantaging specific entrants. When acknowledging their participation, jurors are encouraged to speak to the quality of the process and the diversity of perspectives involved, rather than individual decisions or outcomes.
The Outlook Awards depend on the trust of our community. This trust is earned through ethical conduct, transparency, and respect at every stage, from selection to celebration. By upholding these principles, jurors help ensure that the Awards remain a true reflection of the values that define our industry and an enduring benchmark for integrity and inclusivity.
